JOHANNESBURG – Reports suggest that Transnet and Eskom will be moved into their respective departments. 
That’s as state-owned enterprises is being moved to the Presidency.
It’s understood the Presidency is mooting the idea of a holding company for SOEs. 
Eskom is set to be unbundled into three separate entities — generation, transmission and distribution.

Transnet is also set to open up and welcome more private-sector investment.
The Public Enterprises Department will cease to exist. 
However, several legal and administrative hurdles must be resolved before this can happen. 
Eskom is currently almost R400-billion in the red, while Transnet has a R130-billion debt.
